Relation EU-Macedonia

Macedonia is a candidate EU-member since 2005. Since then the country try to meet the "Copenhagen criteria" and to implement the "acquis communautaire", the European Union law system. The process is going slow. More information can be found here

The name issue

The name issue between Greece and Macedonia started in 1991, when Macedonia declared independence on the 8th September that year. The Greek government did not allowed a self declared nation called "Macedonia" For the interim agreement click here.
